How We Ate (or didn’t eat) Our CSA – Week 26

October 28, 2017 By Kristina McLean

We had a very hectic week, and somehow both my husband and I forgot we needed to pick up our CSA. Needless to say, we were pretty disappointed, and Madeline was very disappointed because she loves opening the crate and pulling everything out. Since it was going to start getting pretty chilly, Marcus and I decided to hit the farmers market (like we do every Saturday) and gather together the vegetables we’d need to make a final feast as an ode to summer.

Every single new recipe I tried was great! Recipes by Melissa Clark from the New Your Times just work for me. They almost always make the repeat list. The chicken was added to that list, as were the baked shrimp and eggplant salad recipes.

If you’ve never made your own cheese, you really need to try it. Ricotta is very easy to make, and it is a totally different animal than store bought. Mozzarella is a fun project as well, and it’s not difficult at all to make. You can use the whey to make whey ricotta, or it’s wonderful in bread.

Madeline had the best time helping me shell the cowpeas (or as we call them, shelly beans). I threw a blanket on the floor, and we went to work. She giggled the entire time which means I’ll be purchasing them as long as the farmers have them.

I hope you all had another great week filled with great food!

Kristina
