I hope everyone is enjoying this fall-like weather.
This week’s share will include: arugula, mix (I have the regular one and one that also has some mild mustards…you can trade your arugula for this), head lettuce, radishes, garlic, summer squash, green bell peppers, various colorful peppers, jalapenos and other hot peppers, eggplant at least for Sustaining Members, okra, green beans (we should be on to the next succession by Friday/Saturday, which will make me very happy), white potatoes, and tomatoes/cherry tomatoes.
The kale and scallions are also very close to being ready to harvest. The eggplant remains the mystery of the season. We have three separate plantings (the most eggplant by far that we have ever planted), and it is all acting fairly similar: nice enough looking plants but little flowering, which means little eggplant. I am starting to feel like there is a trend here: in years that we have really good eggplant harvests, our peppers struggle; in years that we have really good pepper harvests (like this one), we have poor eggplant harvests. That trend makes no sense to me, as they are very, very similar crops. I will have to do some more reflecting on it.
